How do you learn to read lips ?

I've often wondered how people learn to read lips when they are hearing impaired. Is it just something that you eventually pick up or is there a specific way to learn ?How do you learn to read lips ?
I learned by knowing what the word being said was and what the shape of the lips would be when that word was said.How do you learn to read lips ?
It is a lot of work and a lot of studying. But if you put earplugs in so you can't hear, that would be a start.
Read mine... if you are born deaf you really dont have a choice. The parents have to then learn to ';sign'; and teach YOU to ';sign';. From that point on, you're really no different to anyone else (you just cant use your ears).
