How can you prevent inections in the lips of cocker spaniels?

i maybe want to get a coker spaniel but if its gonna get a lip infection that makes it smell like decomposing fish it might put me off anyone know how to prevent this?How can you prevent inections in the lips of cocker spaniels?

I own a Cocker Spaniel (will be 4 soon). Never had she had a lip infection (or any other infection/health problem in general for that matter).

I have owned Cocker Spaniels for 30+yrs. And never had a lip infection or any issues with ';lips';. You have 2 watch their ears. But the lip you have me stumped.
