My dog just keeps licking his lips over and over. I just noticed it this morning. I guess it started yesterday when the person that was supposed to give him water didn't, and when I got home, there was no water in the bowl, but hey, the bathroom was open. Then I noticed that my dog was throwing up as he usually does when he accidentally drinks out of the toilet. He threw up yesterday and again this morning, but it's just this morning that he started licking his lips nonstop, like there's some hair in his tongue he's trying to get out. I'll try to check for something stuck in his teeth, but that doesn't seem to be the case. He also likes going outside to eat grass. He insists it actually, since he gives me the ';I need to go outside to poo'; face everytime he wants to go out and eat grass.
So what's wrong with my dog?Why does my dog keep licking his lips and wanting to eat grass?
Constantly licking of the ';lips'; for a dog is an indication of nausea. This is also confirmed with his want to eat grass. If he doesn't seem better in a day or two, give your vet a call for an opinion. If he gets worse call your vet immediately. Why does my dog keep licking his lips and wanting to eat grass?
he has an upset stomach.
he could be dehydrated..........also
you know taking him to the vet would be a good idea if you are really concerned
Usually the signs of a sick stomach is to eat grass. This how they make themselves throw up until they feel better. Some times they will even keep doing it until they have a empty stomach. I would call the Vet to be safe.
Take your dog to the Vet - drinking out of the toilet is NOT ok and can be potentially dangerous.
It sounds like he needs to throw up.
Please call up your Vet and set up and appointment, as this is not ';normal'; behavior.
dogs usually eat grass when they have an upset stomach/stomach ache. i would take your dog to the vet to make sure nothings wrong with him since he keeps vomiting. keep him away from the toilet, and if this continues, i would take him to the vet.
Eating grass is a clear indicator that a dog (or cat) is trying to vomit, to remove something that's upsetting its stomach. However, his behavior suggests there may be something stuck in his throat that he can't get out by vomiting or drinking.
If this doesn't pass fairly quickly, he needs to see the vet.
let him eat as much grass as he wants. dogs do this instinctively to throw-up and clean their stomachs when they need. and keep the lid on the toilet and his water bowl full, you're responsible for his safety and it's no accident if he's made sick by neglect.
