It is fairly moist, but only because it is in the corner of my lips. It is flat but red and Im very self conscious of it. The sore is red and it hurts when I open my mouth. How do I get rid of this problem?How do you get rid of this sore in the corner of my lips?

Go and see your doctor and have some blood tests. It sounds a bit like Angular stomatitis, which is a type of chelitits in the corners of the lips. This is sometimes caused by an iron deficency anemia, so it is worth getting that checked.
You can get you a tube of 'abreva' from the pharmacy at Walmart. Warning: it is a very little tube that costs $13-14 dollars. Good news: it works and is great for cold sores and it goes a long way.
I had this problem a few weeks ago! My doctor prescribed some ointment called ';fatty ointment'; kinda like a thicker vaseline and i took vitamin b tablets which worked wonders :)
Quit using tartar-control toothpaste.
