Are dry lips necessarily a sign of dehydration or underhydration?

I've had them since I was a kid and since then been applying lip gloss regularly. They don't appear parched, but it is annoying.

Would drinking a consistent 8 cups/day help? Are dry lips necessarily a sign of dehydration or underhydration?
wow this is a good question!!! well i recently asked a nutritionist (( because my son and i have this problem i thought it was hereditary)) and she said it CAN be dehydration but ALSO a lack of PROTEIN (( yup )) or B VITAMINS so think about it do u really eat alot of protein? i dont and once i started to eat more my lips werent so dry hope this helps ^_^

YES ALSO SALIVA HAS A DRYING EFFECT SO DONT LICK UR LIPS AND DONT USE TO MUCH GLOSS OR BALM U WONT MAKE AS MANY NATURAL OILS SO LIPS WILL BE DRIER WHENEVER U DONT HAVE ON GLOSSAre dry lips necessarily a sign of dehydration or underhydration?
usually chapped lips has more to do with an subconscious habit of licking your lips, which causes a drying effect. Overuse of chap stick will give the same effect.
that usually is a sign of dehydration, and if you are not drinking that much water every day then you could be dehydrated.

but if you live in extreme weather (hot or cold) then your lips may be dry because of the weather
Stop breathing through your mouth. The air passing through everytime you breathe in and out is what's causing your lips to be dry.
