My 11 year old son has coldsores every few weeks and they are huge and his lips swell up...real nasty. I have heard that a small-pox injection can help. Any ideas would be gratefully received. We apply Zovirax hourly on the first day and it seems to make no difference. We even put it on as soon as the tingling is felt. What prevents or lessens the occurance of coldsores on the lips?
Go back to your doctor or get him into a specialist.
Could be something fairly simple to diagnose %26amp; treat OR it could be complicated.

MY HUSBAND GETS THEM. THEY ARE ACTUALLY HERPES HE USES A PILL CALLED ACYCLOVIR. IT REALLY HELPS. OUR DR. TOLD US THAT COLD SORES ARE HERPES.
take lots of vitamin c......or have your son check by a doctor sores sometimes are signs of cancers.....
Zovirax cream usually does not help cold sores too much. What is very helpful is the Zovirax (genric-acyclovir) oral or the Valtrex another anti-viral medication. These meds require a prescription and are usually taken at the very first sign or tingling of a cold sore eruption. If taken correctly, these medications are very effective and usually the eruption never takes place. I strongly recommend, as a pharmacist and cold sore sufferer, seeing your doctor and talking to him or her about these medication.
